The dead bird on deck is probably not the only thing to be mourned—but it becomes a stand-in, joining the singing one-man show and the memory of farewell rituals. Despite the popping colors and a friendly, sometimes childlike drawing style, Doom Cruise is a serious metaphor for the current sociopolitical climate.

Simon Steinhorst
Simon Steinhorst was born in 1985 in Starnberg and studied at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne and the European Film College in Denmark. Since 2010 he has been working with Hannah Stragholz on various film projects and is active as an actor. He is co-founder of the animation and production studio Studio Corallo and is working as an actor and filmmaker in Cologne.

Hannah Stragholz
Hannah Stragholz was born in Cologne in 1990. After studying at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf and obtaining her Masterclass from Katharina Grosse, she is now working as a freelance filmmaker and illustrator in Berlin. In 2018 she co-founded the production company Studio Corallo with a focus on animation film, illustration and visual arts. The animated short film Doom Cruise was their first self-production. Doom Cruise has received numerous awards, including the German Short Film Award 2021. Her first directorial work was awarded the German Film Award (Lola) in Gold in 2016.
