Build Up, Reinforce, Break Out
Longing sometimes pulls us into opposite directions. Like the workers who yearn for both stability and instability in the first film, the entire program oscillates between these poles. Enigmatic loops and damaged footage—disintegrating images. Experimenting with form, these films challenge the reliability of one’s own biography, negotiate our yearning for filmic stability, and probe the relationship of daily routines and instability. We conclude with a reflection about the (in)stability of time and place in audio recordings and shared geographies. (mb)
